Klima- und Energie-Modellregion Almenland (Austria)
Klima- und Energie-Modellregion (KEM)
Demo region Steiermark/Styria
One of the demo sites for the project CLUE will be in the Austrian province Styria within the modelregion „Climate friendly Naturpark Almenland”.
The Naturpark Almenland nature preserve is part of eastern Styria. Located in the midst of Styria, it is just 50 km north of the state and cultural capital Graz. With its 125 contiguous alpine pastures, the Almenland is one of Austria’s largest alpine regions.
The climate friendly modelregion is initiated and managed by the 6 municipalties and is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Climate Action within the innovation program “Klima- und Energie-Modellregionen (KEM)”. The initiative encompasses 6 municipalities that all work together and cooperate in a public partnership for 10 different activities in the fields of efficiency, renewables energies und climate.

Within project CLUE
The Naturpark Almenland has a high density of photovoltaic systems. Together with our partner Energie Steiermark we are working on new cabeling projects and optimizing the electrical grid. With renewable energy communities and the planned central storage system, we have the chance to show how we can restructure the way of how we can bring people, renewables electricity and safe supply together.
